Alison Orchard, painter, 14 – 21 July 2018
I enjoy painting ‘en plein air’ and I challenged myself during this week to push my painting in a new, more abstract direction, taking inspiration from the surrounding landscape and using the indoor studio to push new boundaries and explore ideas further. I worked mostly on paper, to encourage spontaneity, using a limited colour palette, sometimes with gouache, ink and fluid micaceous iron oxide, at other times building with oil paints, small studies and explorations. I also visited art exhibitions in the area and explored the coastline. I left with a large body of works on paper, ideas, motifs, textures and lines, lots of small paintings and studies which are starting to develop into more finished paintings in my home studio.
