Susanah Howland 16-30 September 2017
Following an 8-day walk from St Ives to Penzance, I spent two weeks at Brisons Veor – painting, drawing and printing my response to the land, the sea, and the history contained therein. Focusing on mark-making and noticing what the light was telling me as opposed to what the objects before me were telling me, I was able to push my work to a new and hard fought level.
The work I produced in September will be included in an upcoming exhibit at the Catamount Film and Arts Center in Vermont at the end of the year. Two of the pieces I produced have sold and I was recently invited to share more of the work in a local hospice.
I hope to be able to show the work in additional gallery settings and thereby share the work with a broader audience. I am also a volunteer and Board member of the Concord Center for the Visual Arts in Concord Massachusetts where I have the opportunity to share my experience in participating in residencies with our members and fellow artists.
