Sarah Steele, 1 – 7 June, 2024

Sarah Steele is a writer.

Brisons Veor is in a fabulous location and I was lucky with the weather. The views from the cottage windows are amazing, which can be distracting for a writer but also inspiring and relaxing! I found my stay restorative, above all. I gained many new ideas for writing and for how to take my work-in-progress further.

I started writing a longer piece of fiction, a novel, last year but for various reasons had become rather blocked with it this year. Now I have some ideas on how to take it forward. I also wrote two short chapters while staying at Brisons Veor. As well as this fiction, I have the rough draft of a long poem which I was inspired to write during the residency. Last time I stayed at Brisons Veor (November 2018) I found the time whizzed past (as it did this time) and I started making plans for a poetry collection and a short story collection. Both these plans were achieved in 2020 and 2022. When I arrived this time I had just had a second poetry pamphlet published, and my mind was more on my novel. I think my stay will now help me to continue with this.
