The residency was a wonderful experience, the place being so beautiful existential and magical. More than on any past occasion I was enabled to observe and engage witb the environment and landscape. I had explored nearby a couple of years previously down to Senna and to Morvah and Gurnards head etc, but this time stayed very local around the cove itself up to the panoramic views in either direction.

There was so much to take in and favourites were glistening stones at the cove, the lovely contours of headlands in recession, the tiny plants in utterly exposed crannies. and above all the play of light on water

It was so nice to step out predawn into the little garden and then walk a few steps to the sea wall and watch moonlight on waves. Then to hear the coastguard arrive and then to climb up on to the cape and overlook Kenidjack. There was the infinite shift in hues in mid distance and afar, with ghost ships adorning the horizon , and very near, lichen from shaggy to spray paint lichen, and overhead, choughs throwing themselves into headwinds with utterly strange cries. Anyways I managed to take home more than half a dozen oils on canvas pushed thru a few stages and a batch of waterbased studies to work on, plus the absolute treasure of memory!
