6 – 21 May 2016

I usually work with oils on canvas, but I wanted to do something completely different during my residency, so I worked exclusively with watercolours.

I did 55 little studies of the sea and venetian architecture. I discovered a freedom not only in my brush strokes but in the works themselves. I am a gestural painter, and working on paper during my residency gave me an even greater sense of freedom when I returned to my studio and picked up my brushes and my oils.

One of the galleries representing my work in Canada has seen images of the watercolours I did while I was at BV and has asked for a combination of seascapes, marines and architectural studies!!
