Caroline Hudson, painter, 14-21 April 2018

I had been completely looking forward to my residency, however the experience was to prove far deeper and more satisfying than I could of envisaged. I even had the urge to write as soon as arriving ( a new thing) and I’m so glad, as it documents my thoughts, experiences and emotions all through the week, my very high highs and my lows too. Over all I was delighted with how prolific I was, the work had a new energy from being in the incredible environment of West Penwith, and also by being consumed by the elements at Cape Cornwall.

I had battles in my head midweek, work doubts and personal stuff, the space brought these out and helped resolve them too. Loved visiting the Lizard on a ‘day off’ and seeing amazing Art at Newlyn, Penzance, Marazion and St Ives. Love ancient and magical West Penwith, discovering Bronze Age sites and journeys over the Moors to The Sea. It always has a feel of an island to me. Thank you.
