I turned up determined to brave the elements but after 15 minutes of being hailed on and I came inside with my paints and canvas. After sketching the sea from the window inspiration struck and I began to experiment with texture, tone and colour in new ways.

Without having the landscape directly in front of me I was forced to rely on my imagination, sensations and the emotions I felt from being in such a tranquil, beautiful place. Over the week I worked into each painting using my palette knife, brushes, wipes and fingers, layering paint. Leaving the studio only to wander around the windy coast, so I could engage with Cape Cornwall and take something of it back into the studio with me.
