Louise Balaam

12-19 September 2015

I was particularly interested in working alone in the house, in order to structure my own time. In fact the week went very fast – I found myself torn in terms of deciding what to do, whether to walk, draw, paint, read, or explore the very rich environment. I tried to do everything of course! I also got in touch with some fellow RWA artists who live locally, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to make those links with other artists.

I feel I benefited hugely from having time to myself to think and to focus on my work. I didn’t go with a specific project but wanted to soak up the environment, to explore, draw and paint. I loved being so close to the sea, and being able to walk and draw in the evenings, as the light was going. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Milky Way so clearly! With no pressure to do anything at all, I was really able to recharge my creative batteries and work at my own pace.
