DRAWING IN FOUR DIMENSIONS – PATRICIA WILSON SMITH

…. In my dream I saw a sandy beach, with flat, clear waves running in and receding.  And then there was one wave, that came up the beach, rose to a perfect peak, curled, and crystallised….

My current work is autobiographical, in the sense that my starting point is a dream that I had many years ago, and my aim is to track the trajectory of my ideas, and their translation into visual forms. Having spent many years working with photographs and digital media, I found myself wanting to paint once more, and I wanted to see how my experience of digital media shaped my painting.

The time I’ve had at Brisons has allowed me to experiment and I have enjoyed the freedom painting has given me.

I’ve just finished two large pictures for ‘Telling Stories’  at Hastings ( www.tellingstories.info) and I’m looking forward to  a fruitful period in which I can develop my paintings and digital work in tandem.  Being daily so close to the wonderful sea, I have also begun making short films again:  ‘In the Blink of an Eye’, which I’ve made with my daughter who is a dancer, will be part of the screen programme for the Whitstable Biennale Satellite Programme.
